I made money today acting as a garbage man. |

God it sucked. It was like 100 degrees and I would never do it again if given the option. I would much rather do construction for a day. The thing is, it was a 10 hour day. I upchucked a little towards the end.

It has been in the 90's most of the time for the last two weeks. I saw a thermometer during the day that said it was 100.

8. I'm north of you. It has been absolutely terrible. |

And they say there's no global warming.
I assume you're not doing this job anymore?

It's a good job once you get used to it.
Good benefits, plus all you can eat. :P

I gagged just opening the garbage can the other day to put in another bag. I always thought the "I just threw up a little in my mouth" was just a silly expression.
Hope your next money-making day involves something less stinky.

is a thankless job. I'm sure it's one of the nastiest out there. I'm glad I don't have to do it, but I'm happy there are those out there that DO!

9. I was a slinger in Atlanta for a month one summer |
|
98 degrees, 100% humidity. I think they said we once did 1400 stops in one day (16 hours). I weighed 150 at the time. I'd struggle to lift the container, only to be rewarded with a gush of hot skag-juice. And as a new employee, they (Waste Management, those evil bastards) paid me a probationary rate of $45 per day.
I remember the first day was sooooo bad, that when we stopped for lunch, I was looking to run away. But I was 45 miles from home with no money, so I was stuck. I lasted three weeks, coming home every day too tired to eat, too nasty for anyone to get within ten feet of me. It is the worst job imaginable unless you get on with a municipality with benefits. Some of those Denver slingers make good money, I've been told.
