What are you supposed to do when you're 37?
Edited on Tue Jul-12-05 08:51 PM by Darth_Kitten
it just seems like an odd age to be.

:)

Wouldn't mind finding a partner to settle down with, maybe have a kid? I don't know...

:)

See something of the world?

Do something wild and kind of crazy?

Find a new career?

10. it is the prime of life
but if you have not done most of those things already - mate, kids, seeing the world, changing careers, then it is probably best for you to just get a comfortable chair and spend your time reading and writing on anonymous political message boards.

60. I'm not sure what you mean.
If I'm reading your words correctly, you're an extremely rude jerk. Why bother posting if you want to insult people who don't adhere to your rigid timeline of human so-called development? We all have our own paths. Just because they don't match yours does not make them wrong.
Am I missing the sarcasm?

69. I sorta thought it was clear
since I am 43, unmarried and childless, sitting in a comfortable chair and spending time reading and posting on an anonymous political message board.
Maybe that was not obvious, however, a) I usually do not post to insult people unless it is in an extremely funny manner (if that is even possible) and b) if I wanted to insult people, I could do so directly, using, for example a phrase like "you're an extremely rude jerk".
Probably my delivery was off. I should have added the tag line "After all, that is what I am doing. ;) " I am not sure, maybe I thought it was funnier if the obvious was unstated.

I just graduated, am unemployed, but am sure that will change. I graduated in May and wanted to take the summer off to unwind from all that book learnin'. :) Am pretty confident in my ability to land a job when I start looking in late August.

BTW, the new career option is waaaaay cheaper than the child option! :hi:

18. Whitman said it
I celebrate myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

I loafe and invite my soul,
I lean and loafe at my ease observing a spear of summer grass.

My tongue, every atom of my blood, formed from this soil, this air,
Born here of parents born here from parents the same, and their parents

the same, I, now thirty seven years old in perfect health begin,
Hoping to cease not till death.

22. I don't know either. I'm turning 35 and having the same thoughts.
My husband and I have been together for quite some time (no kids by choice). We're settled in our routine now but I'm aching for something different.
A child? Travel? Start a new business? Go back to school? Go skydiving for giggles? Things like that.
It's been nagging at me so I know what you're saying.

47. You're welcome & I'm glad (and sorry) that I'm not alone in this
questioning. I think we're at that stage now where it's now or never. That's what makes the decisions so much more daunting. I keep feeling like I need to dive head first but I can't pinpoint the target so I back off the high dive, if that makes sense.
I hope it becomes clearer for you and me both.

44. I could make some..
... really clever analogies here, but I'd best not.

Yes - and the way to do that is to take your time thinking about just what it is you want to do - then forcing yourself to wait and building tension and excitement and ...

Ok, you get the picture :)

We've all been where you are. It's not fun but it's only temporary. Whereever you put your energy, that is where you will see results. If you want for example, a partner - put your energy into finding one. Make it a daily priority. Think about what kind of partner you need. The universe will serve one up.

Nothing is expected, so anything you come up with is a marvel.
37 can just go gently into the night, or you can define it as the year you (fill in the blanks.)

Every year is a gift; celebrate having been 36 and march forward with your chin up into 37.
