I remember when staying up past 10:00 pm used to mean something. |
|
Growing up. Hot, sticky summer nights. Playing kick the can in the dark with the neighbor kids down the street. Lightening bugs. Cook outs. Saturday night hoping my mom would let me stay up to 11:30 to catch a glimpse of SNL, this was back in the Belushi days too. Summer had a whole different meaning back then.

3. I was thinking the same thing... |
|
the other day. Remembering all the stuff I used to do on summer nights when I was a kid. I miss it.

6. sitting in the porch swing at my grandmother's house, |
|
watching cars go by, and folks out walking off their suppers, waiting for the night to cool down enough to sleep.
Seeing how high we could pump up the swing and then leaping out of it in hopes we would clear the edge of the porch and see how far out in the yard we would land.
granny: "one of these days that swing is going to crash down on you kids"
fast forward about 20 years...my oldest cousin and I are calmly sitting in the swing like adults and boom! the chain finally gives way and his end of the swing hits the porch.
Granny: "I TOLD you that swing was going to fall down on you kids!!!"
My granny was a character, and she lived to be 102 and never lost her sense of humor. (she was also the Queen of Pie Thieves..your dessert was never safe if Granny was around)
