I'm asking for some good wishes/prayers
I take in strays and one of mine is currently a kid whose only 19 years old and in Afghanistan. He joined the Army before I met him and I had about six months of him living with me before he was deployed. I won't go into details but things are crap on a cracker over there and I really would appreciate it if you guys could send him some well wishes. When I can I'll post more about the situation.

I have a love/hate relationship with his phone calls. I'm always glad he's alive and it always makes me cry. Damnit!

My father in-law was in Baghdad for 18 months and it sucked... and he just got sent to Pakistan. Anyways, I'm sure he will be fine!

11. I'm so happy he's out of Iraq
Pakistan is like the Hilton compared to serving time in Iraq.

Thanks for the hug, I really needed it.

13. I do!
It's just so hard when he keeps telling me he's watching his friends and the people of Afghanistan die for no real cause. This is what kills our soldiers by inches.

15. All he has left is body
He's pretty much losing everything else and that is what's killing me.

He's more like an adopted son. Like I said I take in strays. I've been a foster parent and after that I just started taking in teens and young adults that were without a real family. It's what I do.

27. I'm sorry! I didnt mean to imply you were selfish at all...
I have web friends with loved ones overseas...but I dont know anyone there myself...so my mind automatically turns the individual request into a global one...it serves as a reminder for me to get outside my own problems and think of others...

19. Thank you for reminding me of that
I always try and stay strong and positive for him. He was delighted to hear about the entire Rove thing. I just want to be able to tell him some day he's going to be coming home.

Tonight he had to tell me he won't be coming home in Sept. They are keeping him until next March. He was so worried about how I was going to take the news but you could hear the pain in his voice.

34. Yes - especially with these Chickenhawks sending our troops into
their bloody battles that they would run from at the drop of a hat.
How supremely hypocritical and uncaring this bunch is.

28. Lone Star Dem, you have a big heart --
I can't imagine being in Afghanistan at 19 years of age.

My stepdaughters traveled widely in the 1970s and 1980s -- my daughter went to Israel for a year with an education program.
I worried about them then and the U.S. was not "officially" at war.

My thoughts go out to you. Tell that young man we are all hoping he comes home safe and well.

The situation with the Navy SEALS in Afghanistan was enough to drive me nuts. The details of that story are still not clear, right?

31. Thank you for your thoughts
The truth is my heart is no smaller nor bigger than any other person. We all do our things we're led to do, whatever they may be.

The details of what occurred with the Seals is still murky, and will likely remain so for a long time to come. It's like whatever occurred there today, I've not heard of it and won't know for sure for months to come. This drives me insane, but there's not much I can do about it.
