WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - An expert in eating disorders collapsed in a supermarket after inhaling propellant from whipped cream cans, according to police.

Lisa G. Berzins, a prominent psychologist who has been on national television and radio shows and in newspaper articles, was arrested on a warrant Friday charging her in the May 29 incident, The Hartford Courant reported.

Berzins, 49, has a practice in West Hartford. She has written and lectured on eating disorders, female development, sex roles and self-esteem, according a speaker's biography from the American Psychological Association.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, West Hartford police responded to the Farmington Avenue Stop & Shop and found Berzins lying on the floor and bleeding from her head. Berzins, the affidavit says, told police she did not know what happened.

Police interviewed witnesses and collected evidence, then determined that Berzins apparently inhaled from three cans of whipped cream containing nitrous oxide, known as laughing gas, the affidavit says.

Well, there goes her day job!

...or very, very sad. I think it's rather sad. Eating disorders are serious - and very real - illnesses. To laugh at this would be comparable to making fun of a sick, ill, hard core junkie accidentaly overdosing. Just plain sad.

I guess she didn't want to binge on Whip Cream so this was the alternative :eyes:

But seriously, I sometimes see addiction as something that we resolve one addiction only to replace it with another one: Smokers quite smoking and suddenly they start eating food in unhealthy manners. Drinkers quit drinking and instead start to smoke too much.

I don't know the history of this woman and maybe she at one time had an eating disorder, overcame it and then transferred that addiction into another one like huffing.

It's all sad though

7. Huffing whipped creme cans is really inefficient

It wastes the cream. It's better to buy the cannisters of NO2 that you would buy to make your own whipped creme (most head shops sell them) and an opener and fill balloons with the nitrous.

Not that I would know anything about that kind of thing.
