Which bug bugs you the most?
I have to confess, I just went through three weeks of relentless assault upon the Japanese beetles which try to harm my plants.

Now I see the carcasses lying all over the ground. I feel like such a mass murderer. I sprayed them during their orgy parties. I put out the lures. I put repellents in the trees and flowers. A few desperate ones resorted to munching grass.

Still the yard looks like a battle zone. The victory was Pyrrhic. I offer my deepest condolences to Japanese beetle lovers, especially Yoko Ono.

In the final days, a few of these bugs resorted to Kamikaze attacks upon me. I sought them out as I didn't want to allow an aggressive strand to gain a foothold.

I have their bug juice upon my hands. I believe more than 10,000 of them passed away as a result of my onslaught.

Can anyone forgive me?

3. Here's a Florida solution!
What you need:

Cockroaches
Bay Leaves
Water
Baking Powder

Dunk bay leaves in water, then apply baking powder to them.

Put baited leaves in places where the bugs linger.

Roaches love the smell of wet bay leaves. They will munch the leaves and the thin layer of baking powder.

A little bit later the baking powder begins to expand inside the roaches and Kapow! They blow up. Now comes the gross part. Their so called buddies come upon the "tragic" scene of their dead buddy and smell the bay leave residue and munch up their buddy and residue. Then a little later, Kapow! They blow up too. There will be roach parts galore, but eventually you will run out of one of the four ingredients above, hopefully the roaches!

11. My humblest apologies.
The roaches that arrive on the scene usually handle the "clean-up" by ingesting it. You may find some errant roach legs though...

The leaves are probably best for clean up when placed near easy to sweep areas.

We don't have many roaches, but the big roaches come in from outside every now and then. I saw one yesterday as a matter of fact and I screamed like a baby. They scare the crap out of me. I would rather see a spider any day.

16. Shortly after we moved to CA
The cat came yelling at me, so I went to check out the crisis. There was one of theese things in the litter box. I had no idea what it was so I got out my Audobon book and found it was this.

I see them all the time now. The dog digs them up out of the grass roots.

I must say that when I see theese, I am quite curious of them.

Q: What other names are Potato Bugs known by?
A: The common Potato Bug is also known as the Jerusalem cricket. Our Native American friends call him “Woh-tzi-Neh” (Old Bald-Headed Man). In Latin America, he’s “niña de la tierra” (child of the earth). Other names include: Satan's fetus, the Devil's spawn, the Devil's child, the Devil's baby, the Devil's fetus, evil fetus, bald devil fetus, bald fetus of Satan, and earth fetus.

Q: Do potato bugs bite?
A: They gnaw.

Q: Why are potato bugs so ugly and frightening? Why do they look part human? Where did they come from?
A: The most widely held belief is that God didn’t create potato bugs. It was Satan’s work. And amongst evolutionists and non-religious types, the consensus is that potato bugs came from outer space.

Q: I have potato bugs in my vegetable garden. How can I rid myself of these pesky critters?
A: Drench your entire yard with gasoline and set it ablaze. Once the fire has burned itself out and the ground has cooled, cultivate the soil to a depth of seven feet, saturate the area with battery acid and top the surface with gasoline. After a few minutes, most of the surviving potato bugs, now irritated, will burrow up for air. Set the yard on fire again, and let it burn itself out. The remaining bugs should be crisped. Add water. Only then, and only maybe, will you rid yourself of potato bugs.

Q: When I sleep, I have recurring dreams about potato bugs. Nightmares, really. Should I be concerned?
A: No. We all have nightmares about potato bugs. Try not to drink alcohol right before bed.

Q: Does alcohol consumption increase the chances of potato bug nightmares?
A: No. Potato bugs are drawn to the smell of alcohol, so when you drink late at night they’re more likely to infest your bed. They may gnaw your cheeks while you sleep, trying to get at the smell of the alcohol on your breath.

Q: I have never even seen a potato bug. Where would I be likely to find one?
A: Consider yourself very lucky, and forget you ever asked that question.

Q: Do potato bugs eat potatoes?
A: Potato bugs eat your cheeks.

9. Some laundry folks pour detergent water on them to disorient them.
I remember the tropical variety which milled into my towel that I thought was drying. I stepped out of the shower, used the towel and bang, instant head bites! I got so pissed at them I put the towel in a bucket and a brick inside so they couldn't float. 24 hours later I pulled out the towel and they were still there mocking me. So I figure with them being South American ants, let's try the freezer. Two days later, I pulled out the frozen towel and when it thawed a good number of the ants had survived!

Tough critters. I had heard that one way to stop them was with a scent trail and the ants just keep walking in circles.

Chimps eat them right out of the ground.

15. Maybe thew folks at garden's alive have something for those...
I remember those burrowers well. The mole crickets are so fast in sand they almost swim through it. And then they munch what little grass they forget to munch earlier. I tried flooding their tunnels. That did nothing. I had a cat that dug holes worse than they made trying to snarf them up.

My solution was cowardly. Move back north.

18. Ah, nature's astronauts.
The young of spiders can get carried aloft by the wind, traverse continents and if they get frozen way above could possibly survive the thaw. One wonders if they have reached other bodies out there. Maybe we really shouldn't go to Mars!!

Since I moved out of roachville many years ago I haven't been bothered by them. Now, it's those damn biting asian beetles, they come out in the fall, I keep a swatter handy. What's difficult is trying to hit them on the fly.

33. Not just one... Fleas, Mosquitos, Earwigs, Carpenter Ants, Termites...
and carpet beetles just off hand... although I also don't like Japanese beetles, aphids or other bugs that eat my plants. It's mostly bugs that can harm living things or my home that I tend to get just a snickle bit testy about.

BTW - Borax, peppermint and lavendar also help naturally get rid of or repel many bugs... also vinegar and baking soda. They also make excellent non-toxic (pet friendly) houselhold cleaners :D
