...and by extension "internets," are correct. Internetworking is the business of connecting networks, which are called internetworks. Or internets.

That's how the Rs should have spun what was obviously just more gobbledygook from da Prez.

Capitalize it as Internet, and you refer to the collection of networks hooked together publicly.
