Odd question: throbbing veins on random spots on your body? |
|
No no, not THAT kind of throbbing vein, this isn't a porn site!
I occasionally get a near-painful throbbing vein in a random spot. It's been on my foot, neck, head, finger, arm, etc, before. It's happened just sitting at my desk, and even while exercising. My blood pressure is low and cholesterol is good.
I'm at a loss as to what it can be. Searching for "throbbing vein" on Google wasn't particularily helpful. My doctor wasn't sure.
The only possible clue I have is I shined a flashlight through my finger when it was throbbing and the veins throbbing seemed a bit larger than normal. But I have no way of quantifying that.
This ever happen to anyone else? What is it?

3. Hmm, not really sure that's it |
|
I'm a 24 year old male and GCA primarily effects 50+ females. I also have never experienced any of the other symptoms -- just a brief throbbing near-pain that quickly fades.

6. I don't think so either :( |

Sciatica is the term given to pain down the leg, which is caused by irritation of the main nerve into the leg, the sciatic nerve. This pain tends to be caused where the nerves pass through and emerge from the lower bones of the spine (lumbar vertebrae). Much of the advice regarding this condition is the same as that for low back pain.
I don't think that can be it at all, thanks for trying to look though.
So weird-- I've found other people this happens to but can't find any medical explanation.

8. That happens to me, too |
|
I've always wondered what was up with that. My blood pressure is just fine, and my cholesterol levels are okay, I guess...so, i really have no clue.

10. Can I ask your age/gender? |
|
It's affected mid-20s males in every case I've found so far.

Young people can get them. Mine throb occasionally. You should have that checked out and get a real diagnosis not guesses from us.

I'll ask my doctor about it... perhaps I just need to see a specialist instead of a general practicioner?

13. A general practicioner should be able to make a diagnosis. |
|
The specialist would be the person who removes the veins if it is deemed necessary.

14. These veins cannot be removed |
|
I'm not having abnormal vein growth-- this happens in normal and necessary veins. Maybe we're talking about different things? I don't know.
I've talked to three different doctors about it and they didn't know, not sure who else to ask :(
