4. I have no idea but.....
The practice was outlawed in the early 1920's or so but those pitchers that had made the spitball their livelihood were allowed to continue to throw it until they retired or something like that.

There were like 20 or so people from the AL and NL that were allowed to do it.

But, hey, I could be wrong.

Was the last player grandfathered in to still throw the spitter. He played his last game in 1934.
