What should I wear to my job interview?
I might have asked this a while back, but everytime I go for a job interview, I feel like I am wearing the wrong thing.
The job that I am interviewing for is a quality manager position at a medium sized food plant. I am guessing that there will be a strong hands on component to the job. I will be interviewing with men. I am 27 years old and am regularly carded for 18 years old. I am an underweight averaged height female.
I have a navy blue dress suit. I have a light brown dress with a jacket. I have sleevless flowery dresses. I also have khaki pants and black dress pants. I have sweaters. I have a couple of button up blouses.
I have found that if I wear a dress or suit, the interviewer tends to look at me like I would be afraid to get dirty and that I am physically weaker than I am. A couple times when I have worn dresses, the male interviewer seemed to be checking me out.Sometimes when I have gone for the pants route though, they seemed to look at me less professionally. I was hired for my current position wearing dress pants and a shirt. I am not sure what I would be wearing if I got the position, but I don't think that it would be a dress.

2. I wouldn't worry about trying to wear something
that would be appropriate to the job that you would be doing. Just wear something that looks nice. I've seen guys wear a long sleeve shirt and a tie to a truck driving job interview. But if you have ever seen truckers you know that most of us don't dress that way while on the job.

3. But would female truck drivers be looked at differently ?
If they wore dresses to their job interview. As a male, even if you look nice, people are less likely to assume that you are afraid to get dirty and are physically weak or would rather be working in an office. I know that some interviewers will be likely to ascribe these things to me anyway, but wearing a dress seems to make that more likely.

5. Ok
Just go with the slacks and a nice blouse then.

I really don't know what an interviewers biases might be because I've never had to interview people and I've never interviewed an interviewer.

4. Go with pants/blouse
You're right. If you wear a dress they'll either be checking you out or worried that you don't want to get dirty. I'm female, and this has been true for office jobs in manufacturing environments.
