tell me not to freak the fuck out. |

Got a call today from our adoption agency. Our current birthmom has had outpatient psychiatric care in the past, and the agency needs a competency statement from an MD before she can relinquish the baby in order to protect themselves and us from possible lawsuits down the road. She's fine with meeting with someone for the purpose, so no problem, right?
They can't find someone in her area to do a psych assessment. She's due in 12 days. Which means that we might have to do the adoption privately - more money and risk. Plus, under GA law, we wouldn't be able to help her with expenses beyond legal and medical, which we're trying to do.

5. if we ever get to that final success. |

This is match #5, y'know. We've long since passed the "what doesn't kill you" stage.
Thanks, David.

4. Can you find a psych analyist somewhere else to come to Ga |
|
and perform the assessment here? If she's due in 12 days, she obviously shouldn't be traveling herself, but a Dr. could.

You may have to fib a little to get her an appointment, but you may be able to get it done. Good Luck!!!

13. I just helped my sister and BIL during a marathon |
|
pain-in-the-rear, roadblocks every week for a year, bureaucratic BS adoption process.
They adoption of my new nephew was final on Friday.
I don't know how to help with your specific issue, but my best advice is to keep the child uppermost in your thoughts. Ultimately, these tests are the first of many problems you will face with your new child. Love will conquer all.
Hang in there. Best of luck!

14. I would check with the local/state AMA |
|
Quite likely they don't do referrals but they might have advice on how to find someone or get a referral through some other agency.
I'm really surprised that the adoption agency isn't more knowledgeable and aggressive about it.

I just got a call back from a most helpful psychologist in town who's put me in touch with some folks in our birthmom's area. There's hope.
Thanks again, y'all. :)
