1. take guy clark's advice
She did not want to drive
She did not want to fly
She did not want to wait
For a bus to come by

She did not want to hassle
She did not want to hurry
She didn’t want to know
What is cost, don’t worry

Chorus

Baby took a limo to Memphis
Seemed like the thing to do
Baby took a limo to Memphis
She did it ‘cause she wanted to

She was not lookin’ back
She was lookin’ good
She was not in the mood
To be knockin’ on wood

She knows what she wants
She knows how to get it
She knows what it takes
Just do it, don’t regret it

The shortest distance between two towns
Is ridin’ in a limo with the windows down

Don’t ask why she’s goin’
She might let you know
Don’t ask when she’s comin’ back
‘Cause she don’t know

Don’t let her fool you
She’s nobody’s fool
She knows what’s tacky
She knows what’s cool

4. New York to Memphis is Over 1,100 Miles
In my book it's not a one-shot trip. It might be worth driving an evening, sleeping midnight to 6AM, and finishing by nighttime the next day. I say this having made many trips of slightly shorter distances.

The Yahoo driving directions are probably not a bad way to travel:

http://tinyurl.com/7mkwb

Going through the Appalachians you need fast highways, and roads like I-68 qualify.

The last time I tried to push a long trip was driving overnight from Connecticut to Charlotte, NC to be at work in the morning. In central Virginia, I nodded off, left the highway, and rolled down an embankment at 60 mph. Miraculously, I was unhurt. But never again.

5. 18 hours sounds right
I used to drive St Louis to NYC a couple times a year, and I would end up taking a nap in a highway rest area in Pensylvania. Its roughly the same distance, a long haul. Take lots of CDs or books on tape.

6. It will be a pretty drive
See if you can go through West Virginia. I drove from New York to KC about ten years ago and WV was my favorite part of the trip.

7. Great drive
I love road trips. A bit of advice - truck stops are wonderful places for food, gas, snacks and bathrooms. You can also park in the lot, lock your doors and take a good nap without being kicked out or bothered by cops (or anyone else really).

Enjoy it, you'll be going through some very beautiful country.

11. it's prolly dumb to go for the kitties, but i want them so much...
the cattery is putting them up for adoption because they were bad mamas.
somehow i find that really endearing.

14. If they're unwanted, then it's good that you will give them a home.
That is an awful long way to go for kitties though.

17. 2000 miles round trip.
If your car gets 20mpg that's 100 gallons of gas @ $2.25/gallon = $225.00. If you decide to stay in a hotel, factor that cost in. You might come out ahead overall.

25. Excellent! Philly or DC is a much shorter trip.
I do have a coupon from Southwest that I need to use by November. They fly to Newark...so, maybe I can get some time off in the fall.
