First of all, I am at a loss as to how on God's green earth this is a woman's rights issue.
The woman who I set bail for was an older woman who had committed several crimes and when she was called upon to show up in court, she not only fled the state, but also was intercepted by the police during an attempted suicide. At the bond hearing I asked her what she thought would be fair, she resonded that she would prefer no bond at all. She obviously feared for her own safety as well, and considering the fact that civil committment proceedings are an entirely different ball game, wanted to stay in jail until her trial date. I didn't want to set NO bond, so I went with the State's attorney's recommendation that 20,000 dollar bond be set. That's how that wound up. Now, if I'm some radical Shiite Muslim woman-hater for that, well then I can't do anything about it.
The sex offender is Mr. Duncan. If you've read the news recently, you'd have seen him. He was released by a Minnesota judge on 15000 dollar bail, despite being a high risk pedophile. He then proceeded to kill and entire family, molest and kill their young son, bury him in Montana, and then kidnap and molest their younger daughter.
The discussion I intended to elicit from everyone, was regarding the fact that for the failry docile, yet obviously troubled old woman in North Dakota, the bail was set 5000 dollars HIGHER than for a convicted pedophile in Minnesota.
It was irony people. A jab at the judicial system in Minnesota. In no way did I expect that this post would be a landing pad for some militant sermon on woman's rights. If for some reason, in some manner, I offended women, a woman, or anyone for that matter, someone is going to have to show me where it is, becasue I'm at a loss.
Maybe a postscript stating the obvious irony would have helped. Man alive.
