I need to check out that movie again. It's been a long time since I've seen it.

2. "Unforgiven", of those on the list... |
|
and you left out "Once Upon A Time In The West" and "The Searchers", which I'd argue SHOULD be there.

10. had to keep it to 10 films |

and each polled are classics for the genre. the two you mentioned are very good, damed good films but not up to the others in their particular western type, you want me to take out the other john wayne movies for "the searchers," or remove "a fist full of dollars" for "once upon a time in the west?"
blasphemy!
actually i love them all, but could watch "the man who shot liberty valance" over and over again, lee marvin was so damned good, and when you think of him in "cat ballou" too he stands next to wayne and eastwood as creating two of the most memorable characters in westerns.

I'd argue that "The Searchers" is both John Ford and John Wayne's best film (certainly better than Fort Apache or Stagecoach); and Henry Fonda's role in "Once Upon A Time In The West" ranks as one of the all-time great villains. Your mileage may vary.

16. I'm with you on "The Searchers." I'd knock |

A Fistful of Dollars off for that. Several of the others, too.
But I voted for Unforgiven, and would no matter what others were included.

Although I must add that "Lonesome Dove" is my favorite western novel and television miniseries of any genre.

and I also like Heaven's Gate quite a bit. I love every movie already mentioned, and I could add Vera Cruz, Tombstone, and Shane. Also, lest we forget, one of the greatest comedies ever, Blazing Saddles, is also a western (sort of, if you forget the last 10 minutes or so).
