In that song about smoking cigarettes and watching Captain Kangaroo...
were they talking about 'special' cigarettes? It seems to me that watching Captain Kangaroo would be quite boring unless that were the case.

6. He should have masturbated.
He may still have been bored, but at least he would have been able to take a nap afterwards.

5. Additional lyrics should unveil the mystery
"I've nothing to do"

So I would say that the speaker of the song is saying that he's so bored that the only thing there is to do is to smoke tobacco and watch a silly kid's program. Smoking 'special' cigarettes would actually make Captain Kangaroo entertaining, thus the speaker would not be bored.

9. Well, heck, it was ALWAYS entertaining when Mr. Moose

dropped all those ping pong balls on the Captain, or when Bunny Rabbit buried the Captain under all those carrots.

10. We're assuming that the speaker of the song is an adult
and thus Mr. Moose and Bunny Rabbit would usually not be of any interest.

Joking aside. I liked Captain Kangaroo as a kid, but I don't remember anything about the show.

7. also done by C W McCall
Well, now, I been hearin' you're concerned about my happiness
But all a' that thought you're a-givin' me is conscience, I guess
If I was walkin' in your shoes I wouldn't worry none
So you and your friends don't worry 'bout me, I'm havin' lots of fun

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me I've a-nothin' to do

Last night I dressed in tails pretendin' I was on the town
As long as I can dream it's hard to slow this cowboy down
So please don't give a thought to me I'm really doin' fine
And you can always find me here and havin' quite a time

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me I've a-nothin' to do

Well, it's good to see you, I must go, I know I look a fright
Well, any ol' way my eyes are not accustomed to this light
And my boots are not accustomed to this kind a' street
So I must go back to my room and make my day complete

Countin' flowers on the wall
That don't bother me at all
Playin' solitaire 'til dawn with a deck of fifty-one
Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo
Now don't tell me I've a-nothin' to do
A-don't tell me I've a-nothin' to do
