The War on Beauty
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 02:28 AM by GRLMGC
Some decades ago, a campaign was launched to beautify America. One of those places targeted was our nation's capital. I had the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. and to my dismay, there has been an uglification campaign. A "War on Beauty" if you will. The monuments were grand but everywhere were these nasty ass fences that were total eyesores. Now, you could say, "oh these are anti-terrorist" and I would say "no, motherfucker, wooden fences don't protect against terrorists". No, these aren't precautions, but rather a militant campaign to turn D.C. ugly. What the fuck?

2. Like these wooden fences?

A wooden Homeland Security fence, protecting the Washington Monument from terrorism.

It's true, ugly shit has popped up all over DC.

and it looks like a construction fence. When I was in Deutschland, I often was unable to avoid having lots of powerlines in my photos. So I decided to deliberately include the tanjed things.

edit: It also looks like a snow fence, but as Andy Rooney said "It snows about four times a year in DC and every time it does people talk about how unusual it is."

4. D.C. is a gorgeous city.
I live about two hours away from it, and unfortunately it has been uglified. Then again, it just might the souls of the neocons negatively influencing their environment.
