This broke my heart :( (DU Parents will understand)
Edited on Thu Jul-14-05 02:46 PM by Taverner
Today when I left home I was already down the stairs and almost out the door. My 2 y.o. kid Nate ran after me and was saying “Wait Daddy! Daddy wait!”

He wanted to say good-bye before I left. I didn't hear him when he was doing it (but wifey told me about it afterwards). Apparently he was trying to go down the stairs and was whimpering “Daddy bye.”

This breaks my heart :(

8. They sure know how to tug at the heart strings
The other day my 4 year old said "Mommy, you know what I did when I was in your tummy? I touched your heart."

It reduced me to a puddle on the floor. :loveya:

39. My son, at eight, is still fascinated that he came from there.
He really loves to hear me talk about how I used to sing "Someone to Watch Over Me" and Cole Porter to him in the shower!

he stares at it, holds it up like hes supposed to and just looks straight ahead, drops it and then shouts

"WIGGLES!"

13. I'm going to tell you what'll break his heart
Same thing that broke my heart when I was 14 and that was losing my daddy to lung cancer. I can't tell you how many times he tried to quit but he smoked until until they took him into the hospital where he was pretty much there for about 2 months until he died.

So now combine the feelings you have for this thread with the other post you made today about smoking again. Everytime you light up a cigerette think of your 2 year old son who absolutely adores you (and why not?) and how he would feel if one day he no longer had a daddy to chase after!!

:D

29. I read somewhere
some forum or another, a man stopped smoking by putting a picture of his daughter on the front of a pack of cigarettes, so anytime he wanted one he had to look at her picture, and it helped.
Maybe it was a movie. Or a book. Damn my memory :7. Anyways, I heard it somewhere, maybe it could help you. :)

Pot helps, too. Adorable child, by the way. :hi:

38. My aunt did something similar
Her father (my grandfather) died from lung cancer caused by smoking. She put his picture with her cigarettes so she would have to think about him every time she wanted one.

31. I'm going to jump on LynneSin's bandwagon.
My dad is my absolute favorite person in the world.

He smoked for 35 years, then quit about 15 years ago. Cold turkey. Best way to do it. Five years after he quit, he was diagnosed with throat cancer. They caught it early, but he has to go in several times a year to have his throat scrapped.

Around Valentine's Day, we found out he has bladder cancer. It's the 8th most common type of cancer and very closely associated with smoking. His first round of BCG treatments did not work and the cancer returned. He's now on his second and if that doesn't work, he will have to have his bladder removed. Needless to say, that's not a thrilling prospect.

He is terrified that he will leave his wife a widow and won't grow up to see his grandkids (my son is 3 and I so identified with your original post!)

So I'm going to follow LynneSin and encourage you to quit now. Sounds like you don't even need it.

17. I understand
I have a three year old daughter. Luckily when I leave in the mornings she is still asleep because the few times that she has been awake when I've left were difficult. She cried and clung to my leg. I know intellectually that as soon as I'm out the door, my husband will calm her down and she will be fine, but oy, those tears. When I come home at night, she runs to meet me and demands a hug and a kiss before I do anything else. I live for those moments.

Poor lil guy! And your son was upset, too ;-) Give him that big hug when you get home and tell him that you didn't hear him this morning; even if he doesn't understand it all, he'll get the important bits.

28. Aw, man
  I have major "loss" issues, so that kind of thing just kills me. (Don't worry, though, Nate will forget, as long as it doesn't happen every day.) When my son was about 9 months old I dragged out his infant carrier to trade it at a used baby stuff store, and just decided to set him in it for a second to see how much bigger he was. He thought he was being put in the carrier to go to the sitter's and just started bawling. Needless to say, I started bawling harder, even thinking that he was thinking of being abandoned.

Yep, you BASTARD, your poor child was just trying to say goodbye to you!

Just kidding! Go easy on yourself. We've all done it.

Here's a funny for you.

My husband kept forgetting his cell phone, leaving it at home.

So our daughter thought she'd help out (she was nine at the time). She attached a post-it note to his phone reading "don't forget me!"

So he left a note that morning that read:

"I could never forget you! I love you! Daddy"

We had a good laugh over that. He had no idea she was talking about his phone. But she put the note in her scrapbook.
