What do I do this weekend?
Tomorrow night there's a party at Bass Lake.

Saturday is the Berkeley DU meetup, which is about 3 hours from here one way, and driving there and back in a day would be a PITA, so I'd want to leave tomorrow evening OR come back sunday.

Also on Saturday the new Harry Potter comes out, but I am skeptical that I will get it on Saturday and not Monday, so I am reluctant to make plans around that.

Additionally, a friend invited me to go rafting on the Merced on Saturday, but I am worried that if I do that, I will give up my chance to get the Harry Potter book Saturday.

Sunday I was asked to give a short talk about birds to the children at the church, but I can beg off if I have to.

Finally, there's a Philadelphia Vireo over at Mono Lake, which is a 3 hour drive if I go when there's no traffic, ie very early or very late. I really want this bird. It's a bit of a nemesis. There's also a lot of good stuff happening at Mono right now. But like the DU meetup, it's not a day trip.

An ideal weekend would involve going to Mono and a mixture of Harry Potter and birding, but I fear that I wouldn't get the book Satuday and I would dip on the bird and miss all the other fun options available to me.

So what to do?

6. Go to the CG at mono lake and wait for the booger.
The vireo is sinking in terms of priority.

Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 12:50 AM by XemaSab
that I could go to the boat party, get the book, go to berkeley, bird alameda county, work my way to the mountains by dusk, camp out/read harry potter, and get back to church in time to show the kids some birds.

on edit: still too much driving saturday. nuts!

12. A bird in the hand is worth two at Mono Lake
I'd prioritize the "sure things" and social things -- DU and/or rafting -- over the long shot at the lake and the time-flexible Harry Potter reading. Don't let the hype over this book drive you indoors and isolate you -- it'll be there all next week and for the next 50 years or so.

Teaching the kids about birds is also a very good thing -- maybe you can tell them how they EVOLVED. ;)

Whatever you do, give us a full report.

13. This is good advice
I am thinking prioritizing the local things might be the strategy.

The thought of driving to Berkeley tomorrow makes me want to hide under my bed.
