I promised a friend of mine that I would tab out the solo to "Manic Depression" for him. I remembered most of it from years ago but got stuck on a part. WELL . . .
In the meantime, I was also hosing around trying to get my Windows Media Player to shuffle tunes, and automatically play when I discovered that Windows Media Player 10 has a "Play Speed" option, which allows you to play a song at Fast, Normal, or Slow.
If you choose "Slow," you can hear a solo being played slowly and in the correct key. No adjustment need be made like you would have to make if you were slowing down a tape recording.
What an awesome tool!

2. I couldn't believe it when I tried it. |

I heard each note clearly (as clearly as it is played) and could readily comprehend.
I could have really used this function in 1974.

After a decade long hiatus, my wife bought me an Ibanez Destroyer II Phil Collin edition ... 3 pickups and Floyd Rose bridge. Man, my brain knows what to do but the fingers are slow. I've been working on some newer material and this feature would REALLY HELP. Thanks for the tip.

I used to record my albums at speed 16 (remember turntables when they had all of the speeds). This is roughly half the normal speed which makes it an octave lower.
This would have been in the early 80's

9. That makes you a phenomenal musician in my books. |

I did the same thing.
I didn't necessarily record it, but I played it at that speed to pick out the notes in the licks.
You were a dedicated guitarist. I salute you.

10. Sadly I can not take credit for this ... |

A guy that I took lessons from suggested I do this, and it worked great. I never became a very good guitarist. I haven't played in about 15 years.
If it is any consolation, I am now a dedicated Juggler. I can Juggle 7 balls.
Both skills have the same thing in common. Practice, but you knew that.

the way that I recorded it. The turntable was actually an old console stereo. There was no tape deck, or any way to hook one up. So I had to record the sound coming out of it (and everything in the room) on an old style tape recorder. Sooooo, when the dog barked ... you get the picture.
Thanks for dredging up those memories.

I could've saved the money I spend on the Tascam CD-GT1 Guitar Trainer. Again, wish I had that in 1974!!

12. I can't get it to work! |

The play speed option is grayed out and not available when I play a CD. Any ideas what I need to do?

14. I think you are right, only a few wxx formats are supported. |

I went through the help index and read the fine print.
If I rip stuff to the hard drive, it should work. thanks.

That may be a limitation.

I'll have to try that out sometime. It's much cheaper than getting one of those newfangled CD players I keep hearing so much about.
