Anyone else experience Brother Jed Smock?
Brother Jed Smock, and his wife Cindy, the disco queen who converted in a Krystal parking lot?

"Turn, don't burn."

"You're all foooooornnnniiicccaaatooorrrssss."

"I was a whooooooore among whoooooremongers."

"I saw the light at a Vaaaaaaan Haaaaalen Coooooncert."

It was wonderful. I saw him in the early 80s and from what I see from a google search, he's still at it.

Real Life by Karl Tate

This guy has posted most of Tate's book, with permission. I can't find any of the Jed/Cindy spoof's in it, though.

3. Never saw him
We had a different guy who would come to my grad school's campus every Friday, and after classes, I would be out there with him. He was a Jed Smock type guy - women who wear make-up/pants/short dresses/shorts were whores; we were all fornicators, etc.

The three best things I ever did/said:

He was quite close to everyone watching him, and he was talking about how if men looked at women with lust, we turned her into a whore. I turned to the cute blonde next to me and said loudly enough for everyone to hear, "I would like to apologize profusely from the bottom of my heart for looking at you with lust in my heart..." At this point, I tapered off and just stared at her breasts for five seconds before snapping back and exclaiming, "Damn it! I did it again!" I got called a whoremonger by the evangelist.

Another time he was talking about homosexuals, and I yelled at him to explain why homosexuality shows up in other animals, who don't have souls. He said that man was given dominion over the Earth, and man's sin covers the Earth so it was our fault. I yelled, "So there are a couple of gay monkeys going at it in a rainforest somewhere, and it's my fault?" He refused to acknowledge me after that, and I kept yelling at him, "Tell us about the gay monkeys, damn you!" I was known as the gay monkey man for a while after that.

The best thing ever was when he was talking about the evils of dancing. I saw a friend walking to class - A Latina friend who used to own a discotech in Argentina with her ex-husband. I called her over, distracted her, and asked her to help me remember the salsa move she had helped me with the previous week. So we started dancing in the middle of this crowd, and the evangelist took note of it and started yelling at us - more at her. My friend thought it was funny of me to do that though - thank goodness. :)

4. Haven't thought about him in years...
But I saw him a number of times at BOTH universities I attended. Seemed all anyone did was smirk at him... I wonder if he managed to "save" a single soul all that time?

Looks like he hasn't changed much in all these years. At least he seems committed (or should be committed) and as I recall he didn't do much "plate passing" or stumping for money on the campuses. I guess he knew most of us were broke.
