Why won't mycomputer let me install a *@^*$ font?!?! |
|
I'm running WindowsME (total piece of shit, I know) and I'm trying to install some fonts.
It put the fonts in the windows/fonts folder.
Then do as I am supposed to, and go to control panel --> fonts.
And from there, I am SUPPOSED to get the option "install font". But that option is sorely lacking.
Even going through regular windows explorer and right clicking the fonts, I don't get the "install font" option like I'm supposed to.
These are true type fonts, extension .ttf.
I've rebooted a couple times, and none of these fonts are showing up in any programs.
What the fucking fuck?!?!?!?

2. Either the fonts are bad, or... |
|
it doesn't cotton to people putting fonts in the fonts folder by themselves.
(I never ran a Windows box without a font manager on it, so bear with me.)
Try putting the fonts on a floppy, a zip, in another directory, in your D: partition, wherever. Then do the "install font" thing.

6. No, the fonts I'm sure are good |
|
And I've tried doing the fonts from another directory, but nothing ever gives me an "install font" option. Nowhere. Can't find it. No matter how I've tried.
:argh:

3. I'll tell you how I do it |
|
I am with XP too. I just download the font I like from the net. It usually comes in a zip format. Then I unzip it in the fonts folder - C:\WINDOWS\Fonts. Then I reboot and I can work with the font I've just installed.
Hope that helps you :)

5. That's exactly what I did |
|
and I have ME, not XP.
And it doesn't work for me to do that.
And I can't find ANYWHERE anything that will allow me to "install font".
Not even the "fonts" option in control panel.
FUCK!!!

7. Try doing a search for a font manager utility. |
|
I had the same problem... for some reason the font manager disappeared, coincidentally just after running the Microsoft updates. I don't remember what I used as my search string for Google, but I found lots of freeware/shareware font manager/installation utilities. I just checked to see what I used, but, unfortunately, it's no longer in my download directory so I can't tell you which one I ended up using. Make sure you have your antivirus running when you go to these sites... I always find one that tries to load a virus. Fortunately, my antivirus deals with it and I only know because it is set to ask me before doing anything. I never found out what caused the problem in the first place. Maybe someday I will check the geek tech report sites.
Good luck.
