Poll question: Help me choose the next CD I listen to, please!
I am currently listening to Luaka Bop Remix, which is kind of good and a little bit sucky. I need something that will occupy the part of my brain that would normally lead me over to DU to surf instead of working.

So here are the choices:

1. 2.

3. 4.

5. 6.

7. 8.

3. Quasimoto
Even though Madlib's high-pitched Quasimoto voice annoys me sometimes, still some good shit.

6. did you see my post in JJ's thread last night?
I just discovered that I like this CD a whole hell of a lot more than I thought I did. My original copy had a computer-y deep voice overdubbed 3-5 times per track saying "the further adventures of Lord Quas!" on every song! It totally disrupted the flow. Turns out it was an advance and they overdubbed that to prevent piracy. Duh!

22. Yeah, a lot of hip-hop albums do that

I spent months trying to track down non-advance versions of Atmosphere's "God Loves Ugly", El-P's "Fantastic Damage" and Non-Phixion's "The Future Is Now" because of that shit. Drove me insane, haha.

9. Brazil
I see the Brazilians are trailing badly in the polls :-(

But I don't know either of these records, so I can't judge.

Do you know Gal Costa's "Baby"? Or the guitarist Luiz Bonfa?

14. Damn!
That's the most jaw-droppingly amazing guitar playing I think I've ever heard!

I've played the guitar for 40 years now. He does stuff I can't even imagine how he gets his fingers around. There are bits on that disc that sound like three people at once. He left prodigies like Stanley Jordan in the dust, before they were even born.

Do you play, or do you know the skill set involved, to appreciate just how incredible this record is?

15. I don't do more than fiddle around on the guitar
But I do a lot of listening, and am sufficiently impressed with him. I have had that disc in or next to my player for about 3 weeks now. It's not just technically brilliant...it's also amazingly beautiful.

18. Yeah, that too.
I'd been thinking specifically about this record because there was a thread this week about great guitar records, which quickly turned into metal shredder wankfest, and I decided not to mention Bonfa-- but I think he ranks with anybody you care to name as a technician.

There is also the matter of his taste. He doesn't make *everything* an exercise in heroic picking, sometimes he just wants to play you a nice simple ballad, as warmly as if you were the girl on the balcony and he wanted to take you for a walk on the beach.

His version of "Night and Day" slays me.
