For the third goddamn August in a row I have received a jury summons. I lived here for four years before I even got called. There are 300,000 people in this city; this should not happen so often. There is no way in hell I am sitting on a jury; no way. With my luck, I'd get the michael Jackson trial. It says that to qualify as a juror I have to be of sound mind and good moral character. I know for a fact I am not of good moral character so can I be dismissed??? I think I am going to start moving every year so they can't keep up with me. Maybe I need to move out of the county.

2. I got summoned for several years in a row a while back. |

Never got seated on a jury. One trial was a drug case. The prosecutor asked is anyone favored decriminalization of drugs, and I raised my hand. Dismissed! Outside the courtroom, an elderly lady said, "You're right, young man. Prohibition doesn't work."

3. I've never been seated either |

I got on the panel once (I was 8th or 9th) but they dismissed or plea bargained all the cases so their was no need for us. And I am guessing that will happen here. I hope so anyway. I actually wouldn't mind the JP court because those are all simple, usually traffic violations or something. I don't think they'd want me there though because I work for Parks and Wildlife and the JP court is where most wildlife cases (bag and size limit violations, etc) are tried.
I shouldn't really complain. At most it will likely be a day out of my life, probably less. I just dread getting picked for a big case that takes a week or more. I realize most cases are small and take only a day or so but still.

6. Just say that you hate black people |

They'll excuse you right away. Of course, you might need armed security to make it to your car in the parking lot, but that's another problem.

7. What have you done in the Augusts past? |
|
You will continue getting them until you show up and don't beg off.
I've received three in less than a year. The first two times, I was teaching, and I couldn't serve. This past time, I showed up, but I wasn't selected. Maybe I won't get anymore.

8. I either don't get selected or the jury is not needed |
|
They probably get 1000 for the general jury pool annd there are several district courts with cases going on. I don't have a legitimate excuse (except for the good moral character part LOL) so I show up, sit around for four hours, sometimes get empaneled. Most often they dismiss the jury before we even get to the courtroom because of plea bargains or dismissals. I have no idea why August. I assume they need juries year round.

They need a bigger jury pool than registered voters! But it sure seems nonrandom. But I guess once you eliminate all the felons and lowlifes you get ...me and a few thousand people.
I don't really hate it; I am paranoid as hell that I would end up on some sequestered jury deciding the OJ Simpson trial or something. I guess I need to actually serve on a jury to get excused for a couple of years.
