Chakanab National Park, it's really very pretty. You can do the Dolphin Swim where you actually get a chance to swim with dolphins.

http://www.cozumelinsider.com/

They will push you up out of the water by your feet etc. You get about an hour in the water with them. It's a little pricey, but a once in a lifetime exp. You can also rent snorkeling equipment at the Park and there is at least one restaurant and a snack bar. I think it's about 10 bucks American to get in. You can snorkle all day for about the same price.

Also, Paradise Beach is supposedly very nice as well but I haven't been there. Even though you are not going on a cruise, I would recommend www.cruisecritic.com...it's a message board that has quite a bit of info for a number of ports of call. Since Cozumel is one of the more popular desitinations there is a ton of info on it there.

Not sure why the above poster mentioned it wasn't a good time. I assume b/c of hurricanes but I dont think Cozumel itself has been hit this year although it looks like Emily could end up there. I'll be there in late August. Hopefully it will still be there too.

4. Cozumel is wonderful. Very laid back, just the one smallish
city. Do you dive or snorkel? That is Cozumel, diver's paradise.

Just thinking of lying in that wonderful clear water looking at the fish and the coral reefs, just wonderful.

You can go real expensive or you can go moderate.

We got air only flights on Funjet and then booked a week in a bed and breakfast, which was only $35 a night for three people, with a full breakfast. Wonderful ambiance too. Not on the beach, but we opted for local color instead of beach front; the island is not that big so taxi rides are very inexpensive.

Good food, good shopping and the farther away you get from the cruise piers, the better the bargains.

If you do go, be sure and schedule some time on the eastern beaches. Very unimproved and very much like your own private beach.

My wife is worried about the water...do the hotels have their own filtration systems...or do we need to stick to bottled water?

6. I'd stick with bottled water
But that's just me. Also, I've heard some horror stories about Mexican bottled water.

8. Cozumel makes its living on tourists, so they don't want us to get
sick.

We drank bottled water, but we also drank limeades everywhere, and all kinds of interesting juice drinks, ate whatever we wanted.

TIP FROM OUR DOCTOR: two days before you leave, start chewing pepto bismol tablets 2x5 times per day. Continue throughout your trip and for 2 days after your return. The pepto coats your insides and reduces greatly your chances of being bothered by any strange viruses or such. So we did.

9. Screw the water, drink beer!
And get Scuba certified before you go. 80 degree water and 300 ft visibility and some of the most amazing diving on earth. I will never forget my trip there. Also, it's a lot less expensive than Cancun which is just a mexican version of Vegas.

11. It's beautiful...
I've been there about 3 times when our cruise ship ported there. Diving and snorkling are among the best in world.

Bottled water and drinks should be ok. The streets near the docks are chaos when you have 3-4 ships in port but if you stay near the resort, you should be fine.

There are many things to do- We rented jetskis, and went parasailing. Most resorts also have ways to arrange tours to surrounding places, as well as a bus ride to Cancun if you want to go there for a day.

You'll have a blast. Bring lots of sunscreen :)
