My friend said Lou Dobbs is a liberal show......
I don't know because I never watch it. He was bitching because Brian Schweitzer was on there talking about MT Guard troops and how he'd like them to be in MT for fire season. I don't watch cable shows though, not just because I don't get cable, but I don't watch my news really anyway. I read everything and as much as I can get too. Although, honestly, I don't find any show I've ever seen to be liberal. Nor any network. Not CNN or anything else. Just was wondering what you all though of Dobbs and his show.

1. That makes me wonder how deeply conservative
your friend is. Lou Dobbs is _by no means_ a liberal.

3. he's hard to define because he really has no belief system
He was in the military and speaks like he's never had an original thought in his life. He calls himself a Republican, but he can't really tell you what a Republican is. He doesn't believe in supply-side economics, so sometimes he calls himself a Conservative Democrat, he likes John Kerry and he likes John McCain. He was an avid supporter of the war, then after a few months realized I was right and believed Iraq was a mistake. I can't pinpoint or explain what his position is now. He's told me that he's voted for Bush and he's also said he never has. He was a big Kerry supporter for nearly a year before the election, but election night he told me he voted for Bush. Last month he said he didn't. I really don't know what to believe, haha. He loves Fox News, believes Bill and Hillary, Joe Lieberman and Joe Biden all have called upon Bush to make a timeline to get out of Iraq. He thinks McCain and Hagel have as well. False on all counts. I think he just hears things and makes up an opinion on the spot, lol. He argues typically about a straw man that doesn't exist. The typical RW line, where they make up a Liberal that doesn't exist and try to make points about them.

Then he'll blow me away with a reasonable discussion on something too. Like he gave me a great conservative view on why not to drill for oil on the Rocky Mountain front and how a Democrat running for office in that district -which I am probably going to do- can use as a way to get Republican votes.

But, that's one of my best friends. If not my best friend. Go figure. America is an odd place. :)

14. Maybe he just enjoys toying with you?
Otherwise, it sounds like he's in a state of utter confusion and bewilderment, and can't discern up from down.

20. He's kind of a BS'er
He's like that about nonpolitical stuff too. If he told you he just got back from the store you really couldn't believe it. Now why would he lie about not going to the store? Who knows? He's a decent guy, but you just can't nail him down on anything because he's sort of full of BS anyway, lol.

4. I don't know a lot about Lou Dobbs, but one thing that might...
make your friend say this is that he's very much against outsourcing. He's even gone so far as listing on his program companies that outsource. He does really seem to have a heart about this particular issue.

Otherwise, I certainly wouldn't call him a liberal based upon anything else that I've seen about him.

6. Oh yeah, he's totally anti-outsourcing and shipping jobs out of this
country and I am 100% behind him on that.

7. He's very liberal and anti-Bush on many issues; I would say
he is for old line fiscal conservatism. He is totally against the enormous trade and other deficits we have and sees the real dangers of the falling dollar

9. An "old line Conservative"?
What we used to call Republican? Before the takeover?

I'd say that's accurate.

10. My exact phrase is "old line fiscal conservatism"
Please note the word: fiscal. I agree with his fiscal conservatism as this country is going DOWN if we don't stop these deficits. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot. Countries will not continue to lend to us if we cannot pay them back. We are very close to that point now. The dollar will become worthless if we don't stop this crap. This is neither a liberal or conservative thought in present use of these terms. It's economic, monetary and fiscal fact.

deficit as long as it isn't caused by helping people in need. They don't mind a deficit if it's caused by tax cuts or spending on the military/industrial complex.

Bottom line: I don't feel that he's a neo-con.

11. He might start out sounding somewhat "liberal" on topic but
over time (days or weeks) he slowly shifts the debate to his conservative point of view. In the end he always ends up looking and sounding like a conservative.

I would place him in the center politically. He is usually pretty fair and is usually superior to most other Cable News hosts
