Great book, and an equally well made movie.
There were some significant differences, but it was as emotionally satisfying.

Now I understand why.. I did not remember that Fannie Flagg was involved in writng the screenplay. I guess she helped keep some of the integrity of the book.

4. She's a rather well-known author.
Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 12:26 PM by Lex
And her book "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe" was made into a movie in the 90's with some famous actresses:

Mary Stuart Masterson, Kathy Bates, Mary-Louise Parker,
Jessica Tandy, Cicely Tyson

6. She also used to be the facilitator on Candid Camera
She would be the "woman on the street" or the "secretary in the office" or what have you that helped to set the mark up for the gag.

7. SHE'S the Fanny Flagg who wrote Fried Green Tomatoes!!!????
I was aware of Fanny Flagg the writer, but since I was just a youngin' when Match Game was on I had absolutely no idea they were one in the same. Actually until your post I never reconciled Fanny Flagg the writer back to Match Game.

Wow...you learn somethin' new every day.

14. If you liked "Fried Green Tomatoes..." be sure and read Flagg's
"Daisy Faye and the Miracle Man" pure funny. It is a southern based book about southern Alabama in the 50s. Daisy Fay, our heroine, is a sassy blabbermouth who tells all about growing up in the south. I actually liked it better than "Fried Green Tomatoes" - if that is possible.

Good hot summer days made for laughing read.

Her later books I didn't like as much. "Welcome to the World, Baby Girl" and "Standing in the Rainbow" were disappointments after enjoying "Green Tomatoes" and "Daisy Fay." IMHO

11. Me! Me!
:hi:

My first view of her was (IIRC) on Jack Paar's TV show. She did a character called Susie Sweetwater, a southern gossip columnist. Used to talk about such events as a wedding reception at the Trailways Bus Station.

She started out as a weather girl here on the local ABC affiliate back in the 1960's. Here's an older picture of her:

18. First book was published in 1981; she's prolific. Always well-reviewed.
1981: Coming attractions, A Wonderful Novel

1987: Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe

1992: Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man; I echo the poster above--this one is a HOOT!

1998 Welcome to the World, Baby Girl!

2002: Standing in the Rainbow

2004: A Redbird Christmas (to be reprinted in special editions this year for the holidays)

What a funny lady. I think I may check out Daisy Fay again; I'm in need of a good laugh!
