1. "nor" rather than "and" or "site" rather than "sight"? |
|
spell check only goes so far.

and it upsets me that a professional publisher would have let that slip through.

3. Haven't read it yet, but.... |

I catch a lot of this kind of stuff... it always surprises me, though by now it should have stopped doing that, I suppose.

I don't have a copy of the new Harry Potter (although I do enjoy the books) but I am constantly amazed at how poorly many new books are proofed.
Someone told me it has something to do with computers and spell check replacing real live readers, but in the end what it boils down to is the publishers don't have any respect for their audience or their product.
And we wonder why people don't read. Publishers obviously don't even read their own books.

5. not just that, but newspapers ... |
|
I've caught "Canada's National Newspaper" (The Globe and Mail) using "it's" instead of "its". People used to point to their publication as a "how to" example for grammar and spelling.

8. I read books at RL~5... |
|
ON PURPOSE...
'cause I like them
'cause they're often written to my intellectual capability
'cause I actually finish them!!
But, yes, even I notice numerous spelling errors frequently & often sometimes 'n stuff.

9. I cringe whenever I see spelling, punctuation |
|
and grammatical errors in books, newspapers and magazine. I am a copy editor for 10 magazines, so my job is to catch and correct all that stuff.
