1. Directed by Don Siegel!
Famous later on for directing "Dirty Harry" and other Clint Eastwood films. :D

This is still a perfect allegory for America. Repukes are the pod people, the rest of us are locked up for refusing to comply!

5. Still one of the most frightening Science Fiction movies ever made
Edited on Sun Jul-17-05 06:03 PM by General Zod
The loss of humanity and individuality is a powerful theme. Plus the fact that Invasion strives for a kind of realism that is most unsettling. Santa Mira could be any small town in America. The pod people look just like you and me. The paranoia gives the movie it's power, along with that fact that it's open to interpretation: Were the pods symbolic of subversive communists here to take over our way of life? Or is it an attack on the McCarthyism prevalent during that era? Or is it saying that too much conformity is not a good thing?

Even if you don't buy into the political subtext, it's still an extremely scary movie, with a great screenplay and totally believable characters. Don Siegel's literate direction and the relentless pace of the film, make it an exciting, gripping, imaginative thriller.
