I preordered Harry Potter from Amazon in April. Was supposed to be delivered by 7:00 last night. We went out to run some errands, and NATURALLY the UPS driver ALLEGEDLY stopped by at 6:16 p.m. last night. He always leaves the packages on the porch, but no package. No notice, either, although the UPS website says "notice left." I called their 800 number to see what was up and was told the package was taken to DOWNTOWN DALLAS and I'd have to pick it up or it'd be returned to Amazon after 5 business days. I'm studying for the bar exam and don't have time to go running off to downtown Dallas for that! I don't plan to read it until after the bar, naturally, but we're leaving for Toronto the day after the bar and I want to take it with me. I guess I can run over to Barnes & Noble to pick up a copy and have Amazon refund my money.
Sorry to sound like such a spoiled brat; if that is my worst problem right now, I'm very lucky (it's not; my "little quiz" next week is!)

1. Call UPS tomorrow. Tell them what happened, and ask why they |
|
didn't just leave the package. Explain that you didn't get any notice, and (be firm but professional) they really need to put it on the next delivery truck to your house.
Most of the time they are pretty customer friendly.

2. UPS is the worst of the big couriers, IMHO. |

I have had nothing but problems with them. They are so bad that I will specifically not buy something requiring shipping, if the seller only offers UPS.
And, this doesn't apply to you, but now that UPS has their own customs brokerage, instead of using a competitive third-party broker, their "handling fees" have gone through the roof. My last (and I mean "LAST") UPS shipment was a truck part worth $20, and shipping was $5, plus $60(!) in "handling and brokerage charges".

FedEx tends to be far more reliable and it just seems like "they have their shit together", a lot more.
