A little while ago I found a praying mantis in my kitchen, and like I always try to do with unwelcomed insects, caught it by gently trapping it in a paper towel and released it outside of my front door. It flew away and landed on the grass. Then out of nowhere, a mockingbird swooped down and snatched it.

That's too bad. Well, at least, you tried and your heart was in the right place. So that's what counts. :)

4. What makes it worse is that about this time last year my son and I |
|
rescued a stray cat. I couldn't take it in because of my own cat. This cat had a severed tail that looked pretty bad. We brougth it to a local cat rescue organanization and found later that the vet put the cat to sleep because it was too expensive to operate the and the cat also had teeth issues. I told them if I knew I would have found some way to come up with the money for the surgery. I cried for days.

6. I understand that Wickerman, and if I just killed the mantis to get rid |
|
of it, it would have died in vain, and this way the bird had a good meal, but still, it hurts me that I facilitated it's demise.

11. Well, you can look at it this way... |
|
The bird now has a meal for its little babies (maybe) or at least for itself. And Praying Mantis' are creepy.

12. I did think of the bird feeding its babies but I don't think |
|
praying mantises are creepy. I happen to think that they are very cool looking. I feel that way about many insects. When I was going to capture it (it was at the top of my kitchen window and I had to bring a chair over to climb up to reach it)I had a flashback to when I was a kid and saw my first one. I also thought of how even way back then (almost 50 years ago)they were protected because of all the good they do.

13. I try not to kill bugs b/c they usually do more good |
|
than bad. But something about the praying mantis is freaky. Maybe b/c the female will eat the male. Maybe b/c the look like a really small alien. I don't know, but I don't like them.
