Please help me get rid of a nasty smell in my apartment! |
|
Cleaning out my bathroom cupboard and have now contaminated my whole apartment by dumping what was probably a 15-year-old bottle of perfume. In my youth I could handle the really stinky perfumes, but now it all just smells like a toxic chem spill. In fact it's giving me a headache. Anyoe got any ideas on how to get rid of the lingering stench?
It's also on my hands since I rinsed the bottle out for recycling. I took a shower and it did very lttle to help. Any suggestions about how to remove the perfume smell from my bod?

1. You might try the typical things.... |
|
lemon juice or vinegar. I once spilled perfume on my hand in a store and it smelled for days (and it wasn't a nice perfume either!)

Cost a bundle, smells forever. I don't have any lemons, but tons of vinegar. Thanks for the tip!

If that doesn't work, break out the baking soda. Open boxes and place a whole box in the room where the stench is worst. Nonporous surfaces (vinyl flooring, tile)with the perfume stench can be covered with baking soda or cat litter. Carpet can be sprinkled with a heavy coat of baking soda too.

coffee grounds in a pan... turn on the heat. (Just keep an eye on it so you don't ruin your pan.)

4. Well, rinse your hands in vinegar or lemon juice and that should |
|
fix that problem. As to your apt. where did you dump the perfume? If it was the bathroom, or some hard surface, the vinegar will work there too. If it was a soft surface, like carpet, try baking soda. Sprinkle the area with baking powder, let it sit for a few hours, then vacuum. It may not take it away completely, but it will help.

If the smell still lingers where you spilled it, go to a sports supply store. Go the the hunting department and buy some "no scent". Spray where you spilled the perfume. It that doesn't work, you'll just have to keep airing the area out until it goes away.

9. To get it off your hands |
|
pour rubbing alcohol over your hands, use like you're washing your hands, and rinse under cold water. Follow with a mild liquid soap or your fav hand lotion.
To get rid of the smell in your apartment, here are a few tried and true methods:
Get some Neutra-Air by Glade. Spray it on cotton balls in bowls, as well as in the air in your place. Works very fast.
Am assuming you dumped the perfume down a sink. If so, cover sink drain, add warm water and REAL vanilla in the sink. Place cotton balls in bowls around apartment that have been soaked in vanilla. It has to be real vanilla to be able to work to absorb the smell.
