Sometimes I feel like I'm under siege.
I had to walk outside to pay a guy who replaced my windshield. From the construction crew came the sounds of right-wing radio. The guy who fixed my windshield asked where my mother went to church and said he went there, too. I wondered what he thought of the emblem on the back of my car:

Fundies and neocons are everywhere!

One of my top priorities is to find a way out of this town. I was born here, but I don't feel comfortable or welcome here. But days like today, when my neck hurts, I wonder how I'm going to be able to do it.
