Spammers Hack SpreadFirefox.com |
|
Spammers Hack SpreadFirefox.comThe Mozilla Foundation believes someone exploited a problem in the site's content management software to access the site. Mozilla both develops the Firefox browser and maintains the Spread Firefox web site.
"It appears that a part of Spread Firefox was hacked in an attempt to use it to send out spam. It doesn't look like the attacker accessed any personal data on the site, but to be safe, we're encouraging all of our users to log in and change their passwords," wrote Asa Dotzler.
"If you have an account with Spread Firefox, you probably received an email about this with instructions for updating your password."
The intrusion poses some embarrassment for Firefox supporters, who have long claimed their browser was more secure than IE. On Monday, links to forums, blogs, and other destinations do not appear to be working on the Spread Firefox site.Firefox Promotional Website Hackedhttp://secunia.com

The security of Firefox (the browser) has nothing to do with the security of Mozilla's servers.

Firefox is not content management software.

3. I've given up expecting any impartiality from the Computer/Software... |

...industry when it comes to Open Source software and projects aimed at consumer/desktop solutions. Any time I mention Linux or Firefox to a CompUSA employee, a HP/Compaq rep or someone that works at a commercial software company they act as though I've admitted to being a criminal and want to hold their noses. It's as though Microsoft has the entire commercial computer industry and everyone connected to it in their back pocket.
It wouldn't surprise me if the press were just as biased.

They actually commended me for using Firefox. But it definitely wouldn't surprise me if there was some sort of pro-Microsoft or anti-Open Source sentiment.
