I just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau..
against Intex Recreation Corporation. My daughters were in one of those "Easy-Set" pools, with the pump--and the ring which blows up at the top---when all of a sudden it burst at the seams, sending them flowing out of the pool, caught in a rush of 3000 gallons of water. Slightly injured one daughter--could have been much worse. I called the company--they won't do anything. No warranty on any part of the pool, except the pump. Regardless of that, however, a damned swimming pool should not do that when you follow the set-up directions to the letter. They wouldn't even give me the name of the boss for me to write. When I looked up their company, based in Long Beach, CA on the Better Business Bureau web-site, found out that the company has an F rating.

Just thought some of you might be interested in this.

1. Almost bought one of those pools--and they aren't cheap!
I guess they're cheaper than say...an inground pool...but it's not like a $20 kiddie pool either.

Dang. Glad the kids are okay!

2. $200.00--plus the cost of all the chemicals.
And, thanks.

3. Also try reporting it to
your state Attorney General's office. They might be more activist than the BBB.

4. Thanks for the info...
makes me glad the AG is a Democrat! Found out that the President of the Company lives in CHINA--the country that owns most of US debt!

10. Definitely - and check
And check if your state has a Dept of Consumer Protection (or similar)... I've used Connecticut's a few times with good results.

14. Thanks, I will...
I looked up the AG's site, but too many links to follow tonight. Will follow up tomorrow, though. And, I will check about consumer protection with state, too. Did a search of CA Corporations on Sec. of State site there, and did find the name of the registered agent for the Corporation, at same address as Corporation--not some lawyer's office---They wouldn't give me his/her name over the phone----I guess they think I'm stupid and wouldn't find out. They've got another think coming.

12. BBB is largely a joke
It's mainly a way of collecting "protection money" from businesses, especially in trades like roofing, home improvement, etc. They're toothless and worthless, and if this business is not a member, there's almost nothing that will happen. I'm not even sure BBB will open a file on a non-member company.

15. Well, I'm going beyond them as well...
going to do what all here have told me, already reported to CPSC, going to write the AG of Ga, and know an attorney that will probably send a letter to INTEX, pro bono.

I'll bet a lot of families without kids own these damned things.

Edit to add: I also did a google search with the string Intex Recreation+defective and found an article from a law firm that, it seems, just won a 6 million dollar lawsuit against them for patent infringement on air beds--or something like that.

7. Letter to CPSC
I have not hear of this happening before, but if they get multiple reports, there could be action.

8. Can you tell me what CPSC, stands for..

and, from the conversation I had with the lady on the phone, she pretty much admitted that it has happened before--questioned me about the set-up and stuff--guess she was trying to get me to say that we didn't set it up right.

edit: Hold on: I bet it means, "consumer product safety commission." Takes me a while sometimes.
