What a great book!
It blows my mind what a good writer this guy is and I've never read his stuff. Now I am really interested to read some more of his books.

of his books, they are all like that. It took me a couple of tries to get through The Great Santini because the dad was a lot like my dad even though my dad was never military and it was kind of creepy because of that.
I like his books a lot too although I have not read the last one about basketball.

(Not that I created it, of course.) Like all the great horror writers, King does best with short stories. I love his story collections and generally don't care for his novels.

3. The interesting thing for me about that book |
|
is that now that I have read George Lakoff, for me, the father in that book is just the epitome of Lakoff's "strict father" model. It's the only way I can make any sense about the "strict father" model because my entire family is so darn "nurturant parent" that the "strict father" is just completely incomprehensible to me. :P

Beach Music. Excellent, excellent book. One of my favorite works of fiction -- ranks up there w/ some of my favorite American literature.

11. Beach Music IS the best! |

I agree wholeheartedly!!! I heard it takes Pat Conroy like 9 years on average to write a book -- it really shows! His books are SO well written. He is definitely one of my favorite authors and Beach Music one of my favorite books!

His writing is full of passages so beautiful they are poetry.
Prince of Tides is probably his best.
