15. I think "Chicken Pot Pie"...
... is a George Scherer tune, which is another person to look for. Great stuff on his latest CD, which is "Election Year Waltz." Look for it--great tune about the two Bush administrations called "Two Bush Blues."

7. Paik- a really cool, heavy, psych/noise band from Detroit.
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 06:18 PM by Beware the Beast Man
Saw them play on New Year's Eve- they had the tripped-out light show and everything. Thick, dense, textured guitar noise- good stuff.

Paik is one of my favorites right now.

If you like Paik, you might also like Circle.

10. I'm really getting into that whole subgenre as of late.
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 06:18 PM by Beware the Beast Man
Even with the stuff I'm recording at home as well. I used to do mostly electronic ambient recordings, but now I'm starting to add the thick guitar sound to the mix.

Circle- I'll have to check them out- thanks!

16. Fred J. Eaglesmith

Ontario farm boy. His early work is traditional folk, more recent stuff is more edgy folk/country/rock. Lots of songs about cars, dogs, trains.

His song "Wilder than Her" was covered by Dar Williams, and "Carmelita" has been covered by the Cowboy Junkies.

34. Mike Keneally, Stuart Davis, Mieka Pauley, The Samples, The New Kings Of..
Rhythm.

Mike Keneally - Progressive power-pop/20th century/chamber/avant-garde/bubblegum. www.keneally.com

Stuart Davis - The original post-apocalyptic folk punk-monk. www.stuartdavis.com

Mieka Pauley - Female singer/songwriter type. Sounded like Joss Stone years before Joss Stone did, and the songs are better. www.mieka.com

The Samples - If Sting, Neil Young and the Dead had a love child, it would be The Samples. (Note: I'm talking about good Sting, not that whiny 90s-00s crap.) www.thesamples.com

The New Kings of Rhythm - my band. :) www.newkings.com
