Anybody else seen these two shows: Brat camp and "the scholarship"
Something about both of these shows really bug the shit out of me. I can't put my finger on it. I don't neccessarily like the kids in either show, but I'm really irritated at the premises of both. Am I alone?

1. The thing about Brat Camp
is that it would've been a good documentary, but they had to make it a "reality show" with dumbass testimonials and moronic voiceovers.

I refuse to watch the school thing, because 1)It's pathetic to make kids dance like monkeys on TV for college money, and 2)It's a Wal-Mart PR maneuver.

2. well, for starters....
Disclaimer: I don't watch them, this is just my judgment from the millions of commercials I've seen for these two shows.

The students in the scholarship show all deserve scholarships and to make a game show out of the financial need for higher education is, well, sad.

The brat camp...what can I say. Well, I agree that discipline and life changing events build character, but the idea of making a tv show out of stripping a person to their core and getting to the root of their problems after they were stranded in the middle of nowhere by their parents makes my stomach turn. Being a teenager is hell enough without it being televised.

3. I actually brought up the "scholarship" thing with the girl I was seeing
and it occured to me that mayne not all of the kids are even good people, but the whole social Darwinism aspect really bothers me.

On the brat camp thing, they are brats, but I'm guessing that the parents need to be slapped around a little bit too. It seems to me that, at a very basic level, the show is taking the side of parents against the children that they raised. Your kid being an asshole and you being an asshole as well are not mutually exclusive.
