3. It was remarkable seeing Kennedy speak
I listen to him a lot, but this was my first visual.

You can tell he's a Kennedy. He radiates charisma, confidence and authority, even with what would seem to be a crippling voice condition.

5. What is that anyway?

I love hearing him speak because of his words and the intelligence behind them, but his manner of speech leaves me short of breath eventually.

6. I believe it's called spasmodic dysphonia
http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/voice/spasdysp.asp

Spasmodic dysphonia (or laryngeal dystonia) is a voice disorder caused by involuntary movements of one or more muscles of the larynx or voice box. Individuals who have spasmodic dysphonia may have occasional difficulty saying a word or two or they may experience sufficient difficulty to interfere with communication. Spasmodic dysphonia causes the voice to break or to have a tight, strained or strangled quality. There are three different types of spasmodic dysphonia.

8. That certainly explains why he sounds like he's on the verge of a
nervous breakdown.

Very passionate and intelligent man.

9. has he always had it or did it develop later in life. It's probably the
reason he doens't get into politics, that and his old drug problem.
