Better World Club - anybody use 'em?

The Car Talk guys seem to endorse the Better World Club as an alternative to AAA (the auto club) because the BWC isn't as politically irresponsible as the AAA and is actually environmentally minded. The AAA is largely a lobbying organization that works against public transportation and environmental legislation and promotes highways and the use of automobiles.

BWC seems to offer quite similar benefits to the AAA (towing, discounts, etc.) and I believe are price comparable. Anyone here have any experience as a BWC member that you can share?

On a similar topic, I just got an AARP mailing (old fart that I am), advising me of a similar service they're rolling out for members. How will the AARP auto club compare? Is this a good thing, or will competition in the roadside assistance insurance market lead to all the wonderful features we've grown to experience in competitive telecom?

My experience with AAA hasn't been wonderful-- their affiliates do a good job once they show up, but it generally takes several hours. There was a case recently where a lone woman driver was waiting for an AAA service call, and was raped (and killed?). Does anyone know whether (and if so how) that case was resolved?
