7. Sorry...Steve Morse isn't Richie Blackmore and this isn't Deep Purple
It would be like Steve Vai fronting Led Zeppelin instead of Jimmy Page. It might have its moments, BUT...

Don Airey (keyboards)
Ian Gillan (vocals)
Roger Glover (bass)
Steve Morse (guitar)

8. Richie is a real handful.
I knew a lot of guys who worked for Rainbow and there was one way they regarded Richie: fear. He was...mercurial.

9. I know "Nigel Tufnel" in "Spinal Tap" was supposed to be...
...largely drawn from Jeff Beck, but I'm guessing there's a little Blackmore in there too.

BUT...the riffs that put the band on the map were largely Blackmore's riffs, and while Morse is an able technician, he's not Blackmore.

I didn't buy the new CD. I have "Purpendicular" and "Abandon," the first two featuring Morse, which are "OK"...in an "OK, but so what" kind of way.

10. They sounded great on Live8
They sounded better than they did with Blackmore. Ian still can sing like he did 30 years ago and the rest of the band rocked. Morse is no slouch and Blackmore was a pain.
If you can, catch the live8 stuff they did.

11. Nothing to do with the tour or anything,
but when I lived in Henley-on-Thames, two members of Deep Purple lived there as well (not right in the town, but in the vicinity). I can't remember which two band members it was because I never actually saw either of them (except that I think it was one of the Ians), but what I do remember is that they were married to identical twins. It was ages before someone told me that, because I kept thinking I saw the same expensively-groomed blonde woman zipping around the town centre seemingly able to teleport herself from one place to another, not knowing I was seeing twins.

I met an ex-nanny of theirs once - she looked after the children of both families for a time - who said it got very confusing.

George Harrison also lived in Henley (not that it has anything to do with this thread, but I used to see him on our road sometimes because we lived about 100 yards from his gatehouse and he would always smile and wave if he was out and about).
