A coyote just killed a fawn RIGHT OUTSIDE THE OFFICE!!!!!!!
Unreal!

The fawn got some good digs in, but it's looking pretty beat up! Still breathing though! Na, he's gone! Bleeding bad!

The coyote seems to be gone for the moment, but it'll probably be back!

Bambi just went DOWN!!!!!

1. Circle of life. It's fascinating, but hard to watch sometimes.
I saw an orca take a sea lion once.

2. 'Tis nature
Better than watching a hunter shoot one and pose with it's lifeless head for some 8x10.

I am not anti-hunting, because I like the meat, but it's always been strange for me to watch my relatives take pictures like that. Creepy.

34. Yeah, I hear you.
There's a part of me that enjoys watching predation. I like to watch osprey take fish and I have to admit I was thrilled by the orca attack on the sea lion. I like sea lions. A lot.

Sorry about the deer though. Circle of life and all doesn't make it pleasant.

You saw one? They're listed. You're sure it wasn't a milkweed beetle (much more common):

I didn't actually see one. I wanted to post it and see what interesting things people said.

I did actually see the coyote and the fawn though.

Even more exciting than a VELB!

31. Mark Twain called them "emaciated, cowardly wolves"
Which is really what they are. Coyotes NEVER opt for anything close to a fair fight. If they think for a second they're outgunned, they'll run away.

33. oh.... and I thought I had a hard time when the fox got the squirrel
outside my office window.... I really was sad, as this particular squirrel had been quite the acrobat and performer and to see his little limp body being carried in the fox's mouth as he headed across the parking lot back into the woods--that's nature, but still a bit sad.

I hope you (or the returning coyote) were able to put Bambi out of his misery? Doesn't make sense that the coyote would just leave it, if mortally wounded? Perhaps some one came up on him and startled him?

37. how ghastly. this spring, a buncha people in Anchorage were
awakened in their urban neighborhood by the shrieking cries of a child, or so they thought. They went out and it was a grizzly bear attacking and killing a moose calf. It took about a half hour for the animal to die and it shrieked the whole time. It was god awful.
