If I might say a little something about the gender wars /other lounge wars
I am calling on my more sensible friends to realize something about threads that make generalizations about the sexes.

When we engage in these wars, we make it easier than easy for trolls to rack up a bunch of posts claiming they were simply called into the frey. When we take it into the gutter, we invite the gutter into DU.

So please...my DU pals...we can disagree all we want, but let's all do our share to keep DU beautiful by not encouraging this. K?

3. Ok, but I need some clarification... what's constitutes encouraging it?
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 06:35 PM by Misunderestimator
Should we not answer insulting posts? I've alerted on a bunch today that still stand... so don't tell me that works. ;)

4. If everyone alerted on every post they thought was insulting
there would be about two threads left. :D

5. It's not just insulting posts...
Edited on Thu Jul-21-05 06:47 PM by Misunderestimator
I really meant that we should answer insulting posts so that they don't just stand out there... and if they break the rules... they should be alerted on. The ones I alerted on broke the rules, at least by my subjective opinion.

Anyway... now I'm just tired.

;) :hi:

(On edit... I'm a little on edge... edited out my snideness.)

7. don't answer them, don't kick them back to the top and don't copycat
them would be a start.

Thanks Misunderestimator for starting this thread.

I never claimed to understand what the Lounge is all about, but I really don't get today at all. Sexist, homophobic, bigoted hetrophobic etc etc

And it's not "Just a joke" it's hurtful and mean.

I really thought the Loungie's had more kindness and sense.

What ever happened to the cat pic threads?? I really like those .......

16. What breed is (s)he?
Looks like a border collie, but I'm not the best at identifying breeds. Gorgeous dog though.

18. well done! he is an overweight spoiled rotten Border Collie
he's just a big sweetie too!

I've had him on every diet on the planet and finally when he hit 5 years old the vet said "Forget it, he's obviously got a glandular condition. He's fine how he is"

I could have kissed the woman!! so now Einstein just gets to eat normal food like a normal dog (no table scraps) and his weight has never changed since he was 2 years old (he's 9 now).

He's Momma's boy and at my heel every minute.

Geez, can you tell I love the big galoot??

20. Can't blame you
I had a border collie up until last year, when I moved away to university. Had to give him away because the rest of my family didn't have time to take care of him. Amazing dogs. Mine was active as hell.

21. ohhh that's so sad, I'm sorry
my Bub isn't really active (unless there's a tennis ball involved) but he is getting old and his hips are going bad, poor guy

he was a handful as a youngster though....

22. Yeah, it was pretty sad
But he got a good home, so it's not too bad. I would spend hours just throwing around a frisbee or kicking around a soccer ball for him. He never got tired, haha.

10. Was my thread 'bigoted heterophobic'?
If so, that wasn't my intention...just pointing out what i saw as a glaring imbalance. Sorry if anyone's got a problem with that. :)

19. Yep. Just because it's the lounge doesn't mean it's a private forum.

Have to keep the perspective that the whole world can see every post at DU, and what is said here can thus taint, or prop up the other DU forums as well.

On edit:
What about generalizations about okra, are they on or off the table? :dilemma:
