have been since I was a kid. I am currently looking for a doctor to do the surgery. BPPV is so distressing, I am willing to put my ears under the knife. Check this condition out http://www-surgery.ucsd.edu/ent/PatientInfo/info_bppv.html

Almost a year ago I went through a stage of dizzy spells, especially when I was laying down and stood up quickly. Once the dizziness lasted about ten minutes, and I couldn't walk without hanging on to something. I wonder if this was one of the temporary attacks they mention. I literally thought I had had a stroke, but by the time I could arrange to get to a hospital, it had cleared up, and I never had the dizziness again.
Good luck, Roon. Sounds like a bad thing to have to live with. Hope you find a capable doc and have perfect success with the procedure.

Another name for this is top shelf vertigo. The dizziness comes about when you tilt your head like your looking at a top shelf. I always wake up with the condition and it lasts for months and months. I am ready for the knife. :-)
