3. I hate it when my wife goes to the store and wastes money on food
that she knows she'll never eat. She refuses to shop at Jewel, opting instead for one of those upscale, expensive grocery stores, and buys all sorts of odd vegetables and things that she'll never eat....for instance, she bought a bag of fiddlehead ferns a few eeks a go. They were expensive.

Having worked in a kitchen where we used fiddlehead ferns, I knew that they were practically useless as food. They tASTE TERRIBLE, have an unpleasing texture, and look like dying caterpillars. So I raised a stink.

A week later, she tries to cook them, is grossed out, and throws them away. That was $6..50!

She does this all the time; I think she wants to buy this "foodie"-type food to fletter her sense of sophistication, but all it does it clog our fridge and waste our money.

Please, Dr. Phil, help my wife get over her habit of buying overpriced, inedible food!

Still, it was cool to ask girls if they wanted to learn about "The Facts of Life."

11. I don't like pretentious food
and Jewel isn't exactly a cheap store either. We shop at Costco. I have a storage shelf in my basement for the extras and supplement that at a no-frills grocery where we pack our own bags and a farm-stand type store that gets the freshest produce at really good prices. The savings really add up.

I would be pissed, too. The situation sounds dire, but you sure Dr. Phil is the answer?

35. Reserve Fancy stores for Exotic items you can't buy anywhere else
AND THAT's ALL.

For example certain cheese I love I only can find at Whole Foods. (Gruyere) Cetain Olive (Mt Athos olives from Greece) If you have to have truffles at 6pm on Sat night, they have it.. but its even better to get really special items mail ordered.

But YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT they rip you off! DONT BUY 1) Their meat 2)Their Seafood (unless you special order it, it sits around WAY TOO LONG)3) Their general type items.

Much better deals for lots of luxury items at Italian Grocers they have great stuff at low cost. Trader joes is good too.

I buy luxury meat from D'artagnon or Niman ranch. But I really think Jewel's beef is excellent too, and like 1/3 the price, especially the new dry aged blue ribbon stuff they sell.

37. So true...
The worst thing about it is that she'll buy all this.....stuff, then go OUT to eat instead of finding something to do with it. Then she'll make fun of me for shopping at Jewel.

Meanwhile, everytime I shop at Jewel, I buy frozen pizzas and other easy-to-make items that somehow, mysteriously, get eaten by her, while her bok choy or whatever rots in the fridge.

Grrrr.

I just lost Andy. The man who has been my best friend for nearly 18 years is about to start chemo. And I may well have just fucked things up irreparably with one of my other dear friends just at the time when I need all the friends I can get.

I'm having a rough time and I don't see it getting any better in the foreseeable future.

69. Watching the news this evening....
there was a commercial on about some new Subaru SUV that used the song "Dust in the Wind". I've always really liked that song, and while on Messenger, Andy would sometimes play music for us to listen to that he had downloaded. That was one of the songs and I recall once having a discussion on how much we liked the song.

I miss him so damn much.

And she's said that we're prejudiced against him because he's a Muslim.
