"fag" "ya little faggot" (kissy-kissy sounds) "queer-ass cocksucker" "Oh Ellen!? Oh Helen?! " "this is the MENS room... get out of here..." "the girls restroom is next door."
What lovely memories, eh?

My best friend got picked on in junior high and I have always been quite mouthy. I weighed about 110 lbs and the Big Bad Boys would back down from me (BTW I'm a girly girl with a naugty little mouth and a mean streak).

The neighborhood bully was torturing a stray dog. I decked him.
I always stood up for the picked-on. I'd like to think I still do.

i was always hiding as I was made to feel inferior at home and wouldn't even go to the cafeterier for lunch. I hid in the toilet. After I had our first son, I just came right out of it and was not shy at all. Had to..for his sake. Forgot the past and just thought of being a good mom and wife. Needless to say, I would not want to humiliate or hurt anyone. Some good things come from horror and bad. Mrs. Moose

There always seems to be a couple of people in my life that I would just as soon were off somewhere else doing some other thing and being less in my face, but I don't launch campaigns against other folks. I never have. I guess it's just not my style.

of other bullies. There were few things more satisfying than seeing some jackass kid bullying another kid and then quietly reducing him to mere mortal status. I was bullied quite a bit as a child only because of my (at the time) gentle nature. Once I gave in to the dark side however, things changed. One of my favorite movies as a kid was "My Body Guard".

why those three years were the worst of my life.
I attended a regional vocational school to escape the assholes in the town I grew up, and had 4 great terror-free years and made several life long friends.

do a lot of ignoring friends from previous years, such as Middle School, and that was mean. I woulnd't make eye contact with them, and would pretend to be surprised if people deemed as a social liability said hi to me. Wish I hadn't.

Especially Freshman year, especially by some extremely cruel girls who succeeded in messing up my head for a few years. I didn't date until I finished college, partly due to how long it took me to get over it.
Unfortunately I was in the position where merciless teasing by girls was preferable to being totally ignored. That sucked.

Karma. About five years ago I saw him for the first time since 11th grade (that would have been 20 years prior to that).
He was limping, skin had scars, he was pale - basically looked like hell. It turns out he had been in the penitentiary for ten years for a series of assaults. While in prison he regularly got the piss kicked out of him. By the time I saw him again he was a broken human being. As much a rush of "serves you right you bastard" I felt at first, later on I was overcome with some extreme pity for him.
Nature rights things, eventually, and on Her own schedule.

Because of being gay. High school was the worst 4 years of my life. I've talked about this in counselling...and high school was over 25 years ago.

Me and my punk rock friends also turned Homecoming into such a farce that they cancelled it.

I read alot and did one of those "take community college classes in high school" things so I was almost never there.
I think there might be some correlation between reading and empathy- something about all that practice putting yourself in someone else's position makes it harder to pretend the people you're picking on don't have feelings. All the biggest assholes at that age seemed to read nothing but Cosmo or Sports Illustrated.
I took some shit in middle school for being a hippy (i.e. wearing jean jackets and not washing my hair every day) but mostly I had the sense even then that I was just marking time until college.

I was a freakish little kid (reading at 12th grade level by the age of 5), but I was also smart enough to realise that wouldn't go down very well on the playground. So, I compensated for this "liability" by being a physically tough kid with a quick and wicked tongue
