OMG, I am SO jealous! you won't believe this clueless eBay seller!
clueless eBay auction

Newbie seller has the Holy Grail of Beatle album covers, possibly a 1st-state BUTCHER cover--omg, that was on sale for ONE DAY back then, before being taken off the shelves as "too shocking"!
2nd state was when they reissued the album with a different picture pasted over. If it's 1st state it's worth like 10K. Even 2nd state is valuable. She doesn't even have Butcher Cover in her title so serious Beatlephiles won't even see the auction! She just threw it in there with friggin DAVE CLARK FIVE and MOODY BLUES (which make me :puke:)

Read the questions and comments at the bottom! priceless!
here's a discusson thread about it at eBay:
discussion about clueless eBay auction

Somebody is going to get that for less than 5K and turn around and put it up for bid the way it shoulda been, the next day, you watch.

1. Or maybe they'll be surprised that it sold for so much.
It only takes two bidders.

2. Or maybe it's a phony.

Hope not...but anything is possible with scanners and color printers.

(Or as one poster on eBay suggested: "...watch out if this is the jap reproduction they did back in the early 90s.looks almost like the real thing if you had never seen the real deal")

3. Saw one of those valued on Antiques Roadshow a few years ago...
Forget what the price was, but the owner was gobsmacked. And that was a few years ago...

4. Obviously the Butcher Cover is a collectible, but what's the big deal.....
...about the other records? I've got one of those Moody Blues albums here, and I don't believe there's anything remarkable about it.

6. nothing! the other records are run of the mill!
the MB MIGHT be worth a little more because it's a demo or something. the Beatles album is THE thing they're all gaga about.

7. yeah, she knows NOW
--I would cancel an auction like that to give my head time to regroup and figure out the best strategy for getting the best money, then relist. or maybe I'm just greedy

8. whether she knew or not, it all works to her benefit now
Auctions work because people get emotionally involved in the bidding.

9. She will still make money.
Who was the estate agent who sold it to her for nothing in the first place? Aren't they supposed to know about appraising what they sell?

That is a fun auction. Thanks for posting. I have a bunch of old albums, mostly 80's punk and maybe some early rap. Is there a good site to find out if any of it is worth selling?

10. sorry, I don't know jack about records, but do remember when
that Beatles album came out and also have known that the Butcher cover is very rare. I found out about the auction because I was lurking in their "Auction Listing" forums to get ideas for my listings, which are books and old postcards. There might be an old records forum at eBay with links to more info--their threads about bookselling are quite informative.

13. Clueless comment ever:
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 10:59 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
Her comment: ... How can the Beatles record be so valuable but the Supremes aren't?

Another: ... don't forget the Moody Blues is a promo and that should be more valuable than the Beatles record.

I kind of feel bad for her..she may get ripped off for not knowing what the thing is really worth.

Honestly didn't even know they had one. I've just started doing the eBay thing again after a long hiatus.
