I told myself it's time to finally lose some weight.
I know this has been copycatted to death. But I don't get on a scale much. I use the tape measure method instead and the numbers slowly go down. Just need to break this addiction to nervous eating. I walk 40-45 minutes most days of the week and drink lots of water. Not going to look like a heartthrob but already I feel better and stronger.

2. I HAVE A TIP FOR YOU
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 01:00 AM by Skittles
YOU NEED TO DO A FOOD DIARY: for a free one log on to www.fitday.com and log in EVERYTHING YOU EAT, EVERY DAY. You can tailor your own food items if needed. It's calories in, calories out. You're doing good with the walking - KEEP THAT UP. Best way to lose weight is through a combination of DIET/EXERCISE. DO NOT GO TOO LOW ON THE CALORIES LEST YOU LOWER YOUR METABOLISM. Good rule of thumb - multiply the weight you want to be by 10 and shoot for around that number of calories daily. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

5. Thanks for the tip.
I knew you exercised all the time. There's no way I'm cutting calories too low. I just need to ween myself of junk food. And I need to eat when I'm hungry, not when I'm bored or anxious. That's a good rule of thumb for the calories. Thanks for the motivation. :)

10. I thought I remembered you saying that you exercised quite often because
you had a good appetite. Negative visualization is about the only thing that makes me back away from the bakery counter. Cream-filled long-johns with gobs of frosting are like heroin to me. I don't feel as guilty backsliding now that I am exercising regularly but still have more ability now to say enough.

8. Reverse diet
This "diet" is cool; I don't follow it exclusively but I love the recipes because they make me feel full which is my problem with all other diets. Go to the DU Exercise group and find my post about it; it has some links to explain. I just do the baked potato recipe and the lemon water and it really helps.

Number one thing:fresh squeezed lemon in you water all the time;
takes the weight off and clenses too.

9. That is such a good thing you are doing, bushwentawol!
You will feel better and better as time goes on, and this will translate into how you see yourself...It's all good! Don't get discouraged when you don't seem to get anywhere for awhile; your body will get onto plateaus and it will be harder for awhile to lose the weight...but you can get off the plateau by increasing your walk, or by doing other exercises. Remember, the weight went on slowly, and that's how it should come off. Do what you can live with, and then you won't need special diets. I've done it this way, and even though it's slow, it does work!

Good for you!

12. Thanks Peggy!
Yeah it's slow but sure. I do feel a lot better. Even though I'm in a cold weather climate I can still walk outside quite a bit of the winter.

15. suggestion
I gained some weight as I got older and my metabolism slowed down..AND I love my snacks (also a nervouse eater) So, I started my "diet" trying to eat seven servings of veggies a day. It was challenging - I had to cut back on the other foods to get the veggies in. I would keep grapes, carrots, and celery in the office fridge and then eat lower calorie meals at mealtime (not all that strict - just no fatty cheese, sour cream etc.) I felt like I was always eating, in fact (although to be honest, I was always eating celery, carrots, etc.)

The walking is great - exercise helps a lot.
