"Actress-turned-singer" Juliette Lewis (?) on negative Scientology reports
She sings? Is it like a Bjork kind of dissonance, or a Celine Dion dental-drill-to-the-frontal-lobes screech? A J-Lo urban booty howl? WASSUP? And she gave up acting to do it?

Committed Scientologist JULIETTE LEWIS is angry at the way the controversial religion is portrayed in the media - because she would never subscribe to a restrictive, controlling faith.

The actress-turned-singer is baffled by the negative image Scientology has, because it has encouraged her to be an independent and strong person.

She says, "Whatever the media writes about Scientology would go against what you would think of me. But I'm fiercely independent and defiant and its all the stuff that I've done in Scientology that has helped reinforce that and make me even more of an individual.

"And it's a true non-conformist religion, its just the media makes it really negative."

1. She does kind of a modern rock/punk kind of thing
I've heard it. I can't say I'm all that impressed. I loved her in Kalifornia though.

2. Yeah, I just saw Kalifornia again on cable...
...and it was a pretty complex, original role. She really worked the character, and deserves credit for that.

3. She sang in Strange Days
Not opera-caliber or anything, but nervy. She was decent considering she doesn't have that strong of a voice, IMO, but at least she has the nads to get out there and do it.

I had no idea she's a scientologist ninny, though. :(

4. I thought scientologists were into getting rid of toxic bad habits, clean
living and all that yet when I walk past one of their centers they are all out there smoking up a storm first thing in the morning (cough..cough) even one that looks to be about 85 or so!

5. Scientologists have a "God helps those who
help themselves" philosophy. It gives them strength to go out and get what they want out of life. It's all the "Xemu" and aliens coming from outer space and their souls in a volcano stuff that makes them seem wacko.

7. I've never understood why that's any more wacko than christianity
Or any other mainstream religion for that matter. I mean, believing that we all came from the mating of just two people, one of whom was made from a pile of mud or something and the other from a rib of the first one is pretty silly, if you ask me. And that god somehow impregnated a human lady who had his son who got tortured and hung up on a cross and then came back to life - I don't know. Despite my flippancy (which I use merely to illustrate how absurd it is to denigrate beliefs other than the judeo-christian), I think all creation myths are interesting and I respect them for what I perceive them as - an attempt to explain the mysteries of our existence.

So my beef with scientology is not so much the theology because all theology consists of very odd stories, but with the fact that it was created solely so L. Ron Hubbard could make money.

11. I agree.
If space travel had been a possibility in the the minds of the religious thousands of years ago, it would be reflected in our bible and other religious teachings.

6. So, Juliette...
...are you free to speak out in favor of psychiatry, or is your faith too restrictive and controlling? Are you free to discuss any negative aspects of Scientology, or are you too much of a conformist?

9. it's from B, maybe C rated SiFi Book, A LaLa Land Pseudo-Religion
There is just enough common sense axioms woven into it to try to justify all the cult crap... that it sounds rational...

I have dealt with these people and they scare me. I am sure the Celibs get special treatment.. and dont see the general stuff..

I can see how an actor can get caught up in this cult. they do a lot of conditioning, with the Soup Can Galvanic skin response machine, that would help an actor.

but it is also good training to be able to do proselytizing without looking coltish, to acquire the "Poker Face" necessary to get away distortions and lies.. they hook up the trainee and ask them questions and run them thru the gammet of emotional stress abuses.. when the trainee gets control they no longer respond emotionally to any input...:tinfoilhat: that would work good for and actor, but a stressed out impressional confised person.. Well.. it is just a cult, doing what cults do.

10. What's with all the B-grade celebs in this religion?
I really don't understand the attraction, except that their lives, excepting Chick Corea, are involved in fiction.

None of them are first line in their profession in any case. All of them, in my experience anyway, are pretty B-Grade.

15. More fiction than Christianity?
No offense intended...none at all, but is it any less provable than what's in the Bible?

18. Chick Corea was a fantastic pianist. Played with the heavy hitters like
Miles Davis. Then Chick went the Scientoligist route. Ever since them his playing is crap.
So if you want to really hear him play well, make sure it's pre-scientology.

any of the other major religions. I'm sure they've done some horrible things, but that's what religion does.

I don't feel drawn to scientology but hey who listens to the media anyway. Juliette, you go, whatever floats your boat. Just do no harm and I have no gripes.
