What's the best way to peel labels off wine bottles without damage? |
|
We're sort of starting a wine scrapbook, and I have no idea how to get this done non-destructively. Any suggestions?

1. Try a blow dryer, on high, it might soften the |
|
adhesive. Works on box labels, but wine bottle are probably tougher.

wine shop or discount place. Or order by mail at: www.wineenthusiast.com then go to "search" and put in "label saver" http://www.wineenthusiast.com/shopping/prod_detail/main.asp?cat=SP&sl=0&catid=102&productID=283&uid=E89F5113-5221-415F-8FCB-2CA876B1E6ADIn fact, you might as well get The Wine Enthusiast catalog; it's free and they've got other items involving wine scrap-booking as well.

I had no idea that even existed. We're rank newbies at the wine thing. :)

we have a nice bottle of Wiederkehr's Arkansas Pink Catawba on ice for dinner tonight with Talapia and veggies. The winery is 125 years old located in central Arkansas. Very nice product, if you ever get the opportunity. Very nice label on the bottle as well.

6. Wow! I'll look for it. |
|
We have a specialized wine shop around the corner. I bet the owner knows where to find it, if he doesn't carry it.
Thanks! :hi:

5. Goo Gone works great. It gets rid of all kinds of sticky stuff |
|
It smells okay too. You can get it at the grocery. I keep one in the house all the time.

11. No problem. I had an A/C guy come out a few weeks ago |
|
and he got a whole bunch of tar on his tools and hands from being up on my roof. I gave him some goo gone and he was raving about it. He'd never seen it before and was amazed how well it worked.

8. I'm an expert at that! |
|
I often remove wine labels to use them in my mixed media collage work.
First, fill the wine bottle with water (this will keep it from floating to the top when when you soak it in the sink). Then, fill the kitchen sink with hot, soap water. Put the wine bottle in and leave it for several hours. Labels without extensive glossy coating on the paper will virtually "float" off of the bottle!
After the label comes off (and not every wine label can be removed without ruining the label), lie it on a towel to dry. Then, once it's dry, you can press it flat again between two sheets of wax paper, between a couple of big books.
Hope that helps!
