Motorcycle Safety Class, Day 2: Monkey Butt
Lordy. :D

Spent all day on a motorcycle with 8 other people in a large parking lot, circling cones and swerving.

Temperature: 102.
Water consumption: 2 gallons.
Gas consumption: 2 gallons.
Butt chafing factor: 10. Out of 5.

Apparently the technical term is "Monkey Butt."

6. Absolutely.
The tips and tricks I'm picking up are making me a better -- and safer -- rider.

Statistics go something like this (hazy memory numbers):

Fatality rate in passenger vehicles is 1.4 per 100,000.
Fatality rate for motorcycles is 4.9 per 100,000.
Fatality rate for motorcycles where the driver has had some kind of professional training, e.g. the safety course, is 0.8 per 100,000.

Something like 80% of motorcycle riders who die riding have never taken any kind of training.

7. Well sorry for your sore butt
Good that you will be safer. Now you just have to figure out a way to keep all those tailgaters away from you. Why do people drive so close to motorcyclists?
